There’s been a fire in a Kenya’s key airport in Nairobi after a baggage system error forced authorities to evacuate staff and passengers.

It was reported that Kenya temporarily closed one departure terminal at the Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi after a fire triggered by a baggage system error forced authorities to evacuate staff and passengers, the state-run airports operator said on Thursday.

There were no injuries in the incident, which happened just before midnight on Wednesday at what would be the principal gateway to the East African nation, the KAA said in a statement.

“All staff and passengers in the terminal were evacuated safely and the fire contained by the airport fire team,” it stated.

The KAA did not state whether any flights were disrupted. Flight operations in the affected terminal was transferred to an adjacent terminal while police worked to reopen it, the KAA stated.
